CL & P Opens Emergency Operations Center

Berlin, CT as a nor'easter October makes its way through Connecticut light & power (CL & P) opened its emergency operations center in Berlin.

More than 200 CL & p lines and tree crews are working to return the clients affected by power outage and the company is in the process of getting additional assistance. "As was predicted, heavy, wet snow weighing down trees and create issues around the State," said Al Roy, CL & p Manager on emergency management. "Our crews and support staff continues to serve as the storm moves through and we communicate with the city and State officials to coordinate efforts."

CL & p will assess storm damage as soon as it is safe to do so. Assessment, to be reinstated will be available after the completion of the evaluation. We appreciate our customers ' patience.

At the same time, CL & p is a reminder to customers:

-Stay away from all the downed wires. For example, suppose any downed, hanging or burning TOWERS in the live and dangerous and immediately call 9-1-1. If a power line falls on your car while you're inside, stay there. Not to touch anything outside of the vehicle and wait for emergency crews.

-Report a power outage by calling CL & p at 800-286-2000 . Our automated telephone system rapidly processes the report and helps us to speed up reconstruction efforts. It is also assessing recovery once they are available.

-Before starting the generator, make sure that you correctly installed the licensed Electrician. Improperly installed generators can feed electricity back into the power lines and create deadly situations for our employees. Always operate generators outdoors in order to avoid the dangers of carbon monoxide.

-If you lose power, unplug your switches. This will help reduce the potential damage to sensitive electronic equipment once power is restored.
