The Gmail application is designed to provide users of iOS another option to access their Gmail. Currently the most popular way is to use the mail application that comes pre-installed on all iPhones and iPod touches, iPads.
The Gmail application is different from the mail application in several key respects. First design is completely different, with Collapsible menu (instead of the menu displayed on a separate page). The application also uses color coding to names on threaded email like Gmail in your Web version.
