New Delhi: BJP leader LK Advani on Tuesday said he suffered from an inferiority complex due to the oratorical skills of his party colleague Atal Behari Vajpayee and now has the same problem when he hears the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj.
"I said Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the early 70 's I developed an inferiority complex, at the expense of your speech. I say the same Sushma Swaraj also. I really mean it, "Advani said at a meeting here to commemorate his 85 anniversary programme.
Advani said he was shy of public speaking before the 1960 's and wanted to avoid addressing large crowds. He recalled that in 1968, Vajpayee became President of the erstwhile Jan Sangh-which became the BJP after an emergency-and after the post a few years, wanted to pass the baton to him.
"I refused to say could not give public performances and suggested that we should make the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia of the President," said Advani.
However, where denial of Rajmata and others also may not assume the mantle of Advani had to assume. By, he developed the confidence to tackle large meetings. "I was in awe Atalji and previously believed that if politicians said so well, then I could do it," said Advani.
In his speech, Swaraj called Advan,i as the "father figure", who respects her so much, despite the difference in the age of 25-26 years.
