Bernard And Ruth Madoff Attempts Suicide, Ruth Said In His First Interview

In the first interview given to Ruth Madoff's crimes husband she tells Morley Safer, she and Bernard were so distraught over the burden of these crimes that they had tried to commit suicide together. Safer also said Madoff's son, Andrew, for the story, which will provide the first inside account of the closest relatives of the man who stole billions of dollars. The report will air on "60 minutes" Sunday 30 October, 7:0 pm ET/PT.

"I don't know whose idea it was, but we decided to kill himself because he was so horrible what is happening," Ruth Madoff tells safe. "We were terrible calls. Hate mail for anything, and I said "...I just can't go anymore. ""

So Ruth and Bernard Madoff took a bunch of tablets, some of them and maybe some Ambien, Klonopin for Ruth recalls. She does not drink alcohol with them for fear of vomiting. "I picked up that we should have, he picked up more," said Ruth. It was Christmas Eve, she said that "added to General depression." But the pill does not work. "We have taken the pills and woke up the next day.He was very impulsive and I am glad that we woke up, "she says.

Some forethought went into the decision, however, because Ruth sent to package their son Andrew, in violation of a court order prior to the adoption of the Covenant of suicide. In the package were sentimental items, including jewelry. Three years later, Andrew asked his mother why she sent him jewelry. "She told me that she and my father had planned to kill yourself ... they put together this packet and sent him, "said safer.

Sunday story will contain many previously hidden revelations about the family in the aftermath of the scandal. The audience will hear for the first time, where and how Bernard Madoff confessed to his crimes, his loved ones, their reactions and subsequent family conflicts over the past three years.
